Spy Optics Klutch goggles with Happy Lens

Spy’s ‘Happy Lens’ technology is designed to enhance contrast and make colours more vivid by letting in more long-wave blue light. They reckon this also promotes serotonin release, making you feel happier. We can’t say we noticed any improvement in our mood, but the lens definitely helps to give trail obstacles better definition, apart from in dark woods, where we found the silver mirror tint a hindrance. Thankfully, a clear lens is included for these situations. With its deep dual-density foam and sweat-absorbing fleece, the Klutch frame is super-comfy on your face. It’s quite narrow, so the field of vision isn’t the widest, but once you get riding you soon forget about this. Full-face helmet compatibility is pretty good but, with no outriggers holding the strap, these goggles don’t sit on the face quite as well as some. The lack of outriggers does mean they look better with open-face helmets than some other options, although the fairly chunky frame can clash a bit with deep-fitting enduro lids. We love the orange frame and ‘Realtree’ strap combo, and Spy have loads more cool designs in their catalogue too. The Klutch goggles aren’t cheap though.

HIGHS
- Awesome looks and loads of colours
- Silver lens adds contrast for sunny days and a clear lens is included too

LOWS
- Chunky frame obstructs vision slightly
- We’d expect strap outriggers at this price

Rad-looking goggles, but the chunky frame reduces the field of vision and can limit helmet compatibility

Price $112

ENVE M50 29" Wheels

Utah based company ENVE have been making drool-worthy carbon components for some years now. Despite the fact that carbon rims are becoming more and more common on mountain bikes these days, you can guarantee that ENVE wheels will be a talking point when someone is eyeing off a steed. Instantly, the big bold logos on each rim scream "fast", "light" and to some extent, "expensive" The kids call this 'bling'.

Fizik Thar Manganese Rail Saddle

The Fizik Thar is claimed to be the world's first 29er-specific saddle. Yep, you read that correctly, 29er specific. So what makes it so 29er specific?

Dave Hemming’s Fat Chance Yo Eddys

WHO IS DAVE HEMMING Dave first appeared in the mag in 1989 and, after becoming the first Brit to win a World Championships medal, was picked to ride for Team MBUK in 1991. He went on to race DH for several years, in-between numerous hare-brained feature missions. These days, he dabbles in everything from enduros to Ironmans, while working for Swiss/Italian brand X-Bionic. WHY THIS IS A SUPERBIKE? -A ’90s classic has been reborn -The original Yo Eddy is pure anodised retro radness -Its new counterpart is the perfect blend of old and new school, combining classic styling with an up-to-date ride It’s crazy to see how far things have come since the early ’90s. At that time, racing downhill on a hardtail with a 90mm stem and the seat up your arse was just what people did. While the technology seems primitive now, bike companies more than made up for it when it came to anodising! With its ‘aquafade’ paintjob, metallic blue parts and punk graphics, old-school UK racer Dave Hem...

Formula CR3 brakes

The CR3 features a cartridge-type master, which improves power and modulation, plus it is super simple to service: The self-enclosed unit threads directly into the lever body. I took apart our test set and had it back together and bled in 10 minutes with no special tools. Like Formula’s RO brakes, the caliper pistons are actually oval, making more surface area–and thus, more power–than round pistons, but simpler than a four-piston system. The CR3 is best suited for aggressive trail riding.

CANYON NERVE AL 8.0

S ince their entry into the UK market a few years ago, Canyon have made a name for themselves as purveyors of well-made bikes that exhibit often extraordinary value. The secret (or catch, depending on your point of view) is that the brand don’t have dealers – they ship bikes directly to your door.
