Troy Lee Designs A1 MIPS Vertigo helmet

The fit, protection and styling of the A1 have made it a firm favourite in the MBUK office and now TLD have added the MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) to the helmet.

It’s basically a thin plastic liner inside the shell, which helps to separate your head from rotational forces in the event of a crash. It’s a technology that’s been around for a while but it’s the first time it’s been featured on a TLD lid. If the Vertigo graphics seen here aren’t your cup of tea then don’t worry, the A1 MIPS is available in more subtle Drone colourways too. Our medium/large lid weighs 390g.

DRC X-Monitor SP1 lap timer

While smartphone apps such as Strava can be a useful way to keep tabs on your mountain bike rides, sometimes you just can’t beat the simplicity and instant feedback that a good old-fashioned stopwatch style lap timer provides.

Merida Big Seven 100

We've rolled up to our local woods, with a meandering blue trail, some natural wooded tracks and a bit of fire road chucked into the mix to see how the Big Seven 100 tackles trails that entry-level riders are likely to cut their teeth on.
