Smith PivLock Asana women’s glasses

SMITH’S PIVLOCK ASANAS are a revelation for those with smaller faces, who can find it a nigh-on impossible task to find riding glasses that fit.

The dimensions listed on Smith’s made us confident of getting the right fit, and the frame sized up exactly as expected – important when you’re shelling out this sort of cash. That money does get you something pretty special though – a sleek, minimal frame that ensures a broad, uninterrupted field of vision and three interchangeable lenses that can be popped in and out using Smith’s straightforward PivLock system.

We found that the lower of the two nose bridge settings offered the best protection for our eyes without the pad intruding into sight, as it did in the higher setting. The coverage provided by the Asanas is excellent and we didn’t once get any dirt in our eyes. Slow-paced riding on sweaty days does lead to a little fogging but as soon as the pace picks up they vent well enough to clear pretty quickly. The lenses have a water resistant coating that clears rain well and has stood up well during three months of use.

Simple, effective eyewear with a wide field of vision. Not cheap, but perfect for small faces

Commencal are going from strength to strength at the moment and they’ve taken their tough trail hardtail bang up to date with 650b wheels. The handling, smoothness, speed and all-round agility of the basic bike still make it a real blast for technical trail riding though, and it’s a great base for upgrading over time.
