Spank Oozy EVO wheels

SPANK WHEELS HAVE proven they can take an absolute beating, and the Oozy EVOs offer'a winning combo of strength, performance and price for hardcore riders.

The baseline stiffness and strength of any wheel comes from the rim, and Spank's Oobah cross-section - which adds a rounded ridge in the centre of the rim bed - gives them an advantage straight away. We've seen these relatively light 28-spoke wheels roll away from crashes that could crush a DH wheel and have come home from months in the Alps with them still straight and evenly tensioned. In the rare event that one of the triple-butted Sandvik spokes does get damaged, the same length straight-pull spokes are used front and rear on both sides so finding replacements is simple.

The Oozy EVOs are light enough to feel encouragingly responsive and the freehub engagement is keen enough to keep you charging on stop-start sections. The internal rim width is best suited to medium sized tyres rather than 2,4in fatties but the BeadNip edges keep tubeless tyres locked in securely if you add the required tape and valve. There's a wider Trail 285 version with a unique (to bikes) toothed internal rim wall and outer bed design tiat grips tyres even more securely due to arrive shortly.

SO GOOD Gusset’s 50mm stem is nicely CNC machined from 7075 alloy and the faceplate and internal steerer clamp are available in a range of five anodised colours to complement the black body. The hidden steerer clamp keeps sharp edges to a minimum and removes stress from the body of the stem. Out on the bike, the stem proved flex free and bombproof.
