Funn Mamba Clipless pedals

The standout feature of the Mambas is that enormous platform. At 101mm by 101mm, it’s bigger than many flat pedals! A screw-in pin sits at each corner for added traction. In the centre is an SPD style binding mechanism. which features adjustable release tension and a dial indicates the tension setting on each pedal for ease of setup.

Race Face Atlas pedals

In the last few years there’s been a big resurgence of flat pedal use amongst trail riders, and I’ll freely admit to being a flat pedal evangelist. Flat pedals help make you a better rider by highlighting the shortcomings in your technique, as well as offering a faster bailout when things go pear-shaped. To coincide with their increasing popularity, we’ve also seen improvements in flat pedal design, and Race Face’s Atlas pedal typifies the upper end of current flat pedal technology.

Crank Brothers Mallet DH/Race pedals

IF RED WAS never your cup of tea you're in luck, because you can now get CrankBrothers' increasingly popular Mallet DH pedals in black too.

Azonic Wicked pedals

FOLLOWING THE TREND for large, thin flat pedals, the Wicked’s CNC machined body provides a 105x100mm platform for your feet that varies in thickness from 6.5 to 9mm .

DMR V12 pedals

SO GOOD The wider 95mm platform, 10 pins per side and concave shaping mean the new V12s don’t disappoint when it comes to grip. We’re big fans of the price too, which makes the build quality and 422g weight even more impressive. Though the 95mm platform isn’t the widest on paper, because the pedal body doesn’t sit tight to the crank arm, there’s space to accommodate wider feet.

Burgtec Penthouse MK4 pedals

SO GOOD The 6mm tall pins are slim enough to dig into just about any shoe with a ferocious bite. Couple that with the slightly concave platform, and the Penthouse flats are easily some of the grippiest pedals on test. Each of the eight pins per side threads in from the rear, which makes adding/removing them easier. Build quality is great and they’re solid enough to shrug off the odd rock or root strike with relative ease.

Spank Oozy pedals

SO GOOD At just 364g and 12mm deep, the Oozys aren’t just some of the lightest pedals on test, they’re also some of the thinnest. Even if you take into account the bulge to accommodate the axle’s sealed bearing, there’s still 97mm of platform for support. The tall, narrow pins are extremely grippy, screw in from the rear and even after a couple of scrapes, haven’t bent yet.

Kore Torsion SX V2 pedals

SO GOOD With a 100mm wide, slightly concave platform and 10 pins per side, the Torsions provide plenty of grip, even when riding choppier trails. The width means there’s enough support even for clumpier shoes like Five Tens and you don’t constantly scuff the cranks. Ours have taken a few knocks during testing but still run smooth and straight.

Azonic Wicked pedals

SO GOOD At just 324g , the Wickeds are the lightest pedals on test. The 95mm wide platform offers a decent amount of support, while the shallow 9mm depth helps with ground clearance on bikes with low bottom brackets.
