Scott Explorair Softshell jacket

THE EXPLORAIR COMBINES Gore Windstopper where you need it most – over the sleeves, through the front and hood – with a lighter stretch material on the back and the underside of the sleeves.

This means it’s not quite as protective as a jacket with all-overWindstopper but despite its relatively light weight we found it warm enough with just a baselayer underneath when riding in a bitingly cold wind. It’s quite long, and not just at the back, but a slim cut makes that work.

The hood goes over a helmet with ease and has a drawcord so you can adjust the fit for unhindered vision. The long, zipped front pockets have secure inner sections, so you could double them up as vents, but this jacket is so breathable we can’t think why you’d need to.

Merida Big Seven 100
