Rehthal Duo stem

THE DUO’S UNIQUE two-piece design allows more scrupulous machining to save extra weight. At 125g it’s among the lightest here, yet it holds everything together more securely than many of its featherweight rivals. It’s a bit of a faff to install it properly and swap bars, and it can creak if the two halves aren’t aligned just so.

But when fitted correctly, it clamps the bar securely and evenly. The greased steel bolts grip the steerer remarkably tightly too, holding fast both on the trail and in our indoor tests despite having a torque spec of only 5Nm. With a 40mm stack height, the Duo feels properly solid on the trail. There’s 10 degrees of rise for those after a tall bar height without needing a big stack of spacers. Technically it can be used upside-down, but this looks odd.

Its rock solid responsiveness and short-stroke fork make it seriously unforgiving on rougher trails though.
