Gore Element Urban Print jacket

DESPITE BEING A commuter jacket, this was the softshell we reached for every day this spring. The urban camo print and neon highlights make it stand out, but it’s the functionality that comes with those design details that really appeals.

Gore’sWindstopper fabric gives outstanding breathability and stays comfy no matter how much you heat up, the soft cuffs seal the sleeves and incorporate thumb loops, while the tail flips up out of sight when not needed. The details are well thought through too, from the magnetic zip flap that hides the chest pocket to the thermal hood that snaps into place under a helmet with no need for adjustment.

Fit, fabric and construction are all fantastic, and despite its constant wash and wear cycle our test jacket still looks as good as new.

Gusset Magnum stem

SO GOOD Gusset’s 50mm stem is nicely CNC machined from 7075 alloy and the faceplate and internal steerer clamp are available in a range of five anodised colours to complement the black body. The hidden steerer clamp keeps sharp edges to a minimum and removes stress from the body of the stem. Out on the bike, the stem proved flex free and bombproof.

THEY AREN’T CHEAP, but these well made and feature packed shorts are the epitome of classic mountainbike-specific functionality, and on the bike they don’t disappoint.

The fat aluminium tubes are a constrast to the skinny items seen elsewhere in the test, but this rigid Cannondale uses them to create one of the most old-school - and lightest - rides here.
