6D ATB-1T helmet

They may be relatively new to mountain biking, but 6D’s helmets have been protecting a crop of the world’s best motocross riders for some time.

The Californian company’s new ATB-1T trail lid makes use of the same Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS) technology found in their moto helmets. Essentially, it has two EPS liners that are held apart by 27 elastic dampers, so that in the event of a crash the forces on the lid are separated from the rider’s head.

Aesthetics are a personal thing, but we reckon the shape of the shell combined with the two-tone matt and gloss colours make this a rad-looking lid. The magnetic chin strap closure is a neat feature too.

RockShox Pike 26

Waaaay back in 2002, RockShox revolutionized the suspension world with the release of its Psylo range of forks. The forks came with 30mm stanchions, a lockout/compression adjustment, the travel was adjustable from 80-120mm, and......wait for it, they came with a quick release 20mm through axle.

CANYON NERVE AL 8.0

S ince their entry into the UK market a few years ago, Canyon have made a name for themselves as purveyors of well-made bikes that exhibit often extraordinary value. Cannondale Trail SL 29 SS

The fat aluminium tubes are a constrast to the skinny items seen elsewhere in the test, but this rigid Cannondale uses them to create one of the most old-school - and lightest - rides here.
