Okay, they have an unfortunate name, but these are a competent set of pedals for trail riding. The “posi-lock” mechanism is very similar to Shimano’s SPD system in both design and feel. Engagement is nice and easy as the cage prevents the pedal from spinning underfoot, but it stays out of the way to aid easy entry.
The degree of float is
a nice compromise and feels very similar to Shimano’s mechanism with a crisp
unclipping action. Release tension is easily fine-tuned with a large range of adjustment.
A useful dial indicates the tension. The cage is not very supportive, though.
It helps to steady the pedal when clipping in, but it doesn’t provide much platform
- this is noticeable with flexier shoes, where they feel very similar to a
pedal with no cage at all. Also, the alloy cage is rather slippery if you miss
when clipping in and have to ride out a section unclipped. Add to this the
sharp edges of the cage and we can’t recommend them to dabbers. The q-factor of
52mm is narrower than most, so you have to run the cleat quite far inboard to
avoid the shoe interfering with the crank. They are light and the tiny alloy
body houses three cartridge bearings for added longevity, and we’ve had no issues
with play or grittiness thus far.
Lightweight, but an unsupportive, slippery and sharp-cornered
cage let them down
