These are the widest and lightest here. At 1525g, they're more XC weight than trail. American Classic recommends them for both disciplines, but they're no place for skinny XC tyres. Even big 2.4-2.5in tyres sit up square, while the narrower 2.35in options can end up wider at the sidewalls than the tread shoulder.
There's a gap of
several degrees before the hub engages, which can make sudden half-cranked
lunges a chain-straining affair. The Rovals are the same, and they can't match
the manoeuvrability-boosting verve of these stiff wheels. The downside of such
pared-down hubs is that sealing is basic, and you may find the cartridge
bearings suffering relatively quickly.
Incredibly light,
beautifully made and extremely effective - hubs need care.
