Acre The Hauser 10L backpack

ACRE'S FIRST TRAIL pack uses a tough 210 denier ripstop nylon outer fabric and a softer 70 denier lining. Couple that with the waterproof zips used throughout and you get a fully waterproof bag that's well suited to the British climate. With a 101 capacity, it holds just about enough gear for all-day epics but is just as comfortable with lighter loads on shorter blasts.

The roll-top rather than zipped closure means it takes longer to access the contents, but it keeps the elements out and packs down tightly. There are two small external pockets where you can stash extra gear, a third one containing hidden carry straps for your helmet or pads and a larger front pocket that holds a handy - though bulky - tool roll.

The back and straps are made from perforated foam for comfort and ventilation, and though the back panel is quite thin, it moulds to your shape nicely. The wide waistband has three mounting points to tailor the fit. Acre have done a great job with the fit and stability of this pack, and the fact you can just hose it down after a ride is a massive plus. The only downside is that you need to buy a bladder separately, adding to the already hefty price tag.

Impressive form, fit and function. If it weren't so expensive and came with a bladder, it'd be a serious contender.

PRICE 270$

Its rock solid responsiveness and short-stroke fork make it seriously unforgiving on rougher trails though.
