SCOTT VOLTAGE

Scott’s long-standing freeride specialist, the Voltage – a bike that’s been many a rider’s first proper gravity machine – has received a major makeover for 2015. Like the Gambler, it’s now set up for 650b wheels, though you can run 26in too. But the biggest upgrades are improved stiffness and durability, more predictable suspension performance and the high level of adjustability we’ve come to expect from Scott.

- The new Voltage offers a similar range of adjustment to the Gambler, including head angle (62-66 degrees, via an angled headset), travel (170 - 190mm, via twin shock mounts on the linkage) and chainstay length (410-425mm, with 26in wheels only).

- The Voltage FR 710 pictured here will cost 4250$ and come with a fun-focused spec including a 180mm (7.1in) travel Fox 36 Float air fork and DHX RC4 coil shock, SRAM X9 10x1 transmission, Shimano Deore XT brakes and Syncros kit.

- The new one-piece suspension linkage, mud-shedding seatstay brace and the introduction of the IDS-X adjustable dropouts and larger bearings from the Gambler have significantly improved overall stiffness on the Voltage.

- The bike’s highly adjustable nature, lightweight design and compatibility with triple-crown forks should appeal to young downhill racers looking for a competitively priced and appropriately sprung bike for UK tracks.
