O’Neal Torque shoes

THE TORQUE GIVES plenty of protection for riders who use platform clipless pedals. It sits well on bigger pedals and the flexible sole gives plenty of grip and trail communication if you’re unclipped.

It’s acceptably stiff for pedalling too, as long as you’re going with gravity, not fighting it. Cutting out the removable rubber panel over the cleat holes is a pain though.

Weatherproofing is reasonable despite holes in the synthetic leather upper. The high inside heel cuff stops cranks and rear stays clattering your ankles if your riding gets loose, though it can rub paint off and adds to the shoes’ weight, and the wrapover strap can be removed for lace-only tightening. The Torques aren’t bad but there are similar shoes available for significantly less.
