Shimano Saint CD50 Chain Guide

SO GOOD: There’s no doubting the solid, high-end build quality of this device. The sprung lower guide moves on impact, is silent and causes very little chain drag.

It was also the lightest device on test (150g) and was straightforward to fit. Despite riding in some filthy conditions it shed mud well and kept the chain securely in place.

NO GOOD: The quarter bashring that mounts on the crank spider seems ingenious at first, but some aggressive riding soon illustrated that you won’t always be riding with your lead foot forward when you smack your chainring into a log or rock. We’d have liked more consistent protection.
