Fox 34 TALAS 160 FIT CTD w/Trail Adjust

FOX’S ADJUSTABLE-TRAVEL TALAS forks are significantly smoother for 2014 and the damping is more suited to aggro riding too, but the 34 chassis is disappointing in 650b wheel format.

Despite the fact that it’s much heavier than other 34 and 35mm forks, the way Fox have just extended the dropouts of the 26in fork to create the 650b version means the 34 is only adequately accurate when the trail turns nasty. Wagon-wheelers will be relieved to hear that the 29er version is competitively stiff though.

Fox’s Shimano collaboration QR15 axle is excellent, and the new hydraulic (not air) TALAS system is now practically as smooth as the fixed-travel Float version.

Cornering and braking control benefits from the CTD damping being retuned to give much more support than last year’s dive prone forks. There’s a definite pressure sweet spot to get a smooth transition from the supple start to the firmer mid stroke without a noticeable ‘lump’ in the damping though, particularly in multiple high-speed hit situations. Importers Mojo offer excellent servicing and tuning back-up, which helps, but the 34 TALAS is still very pricey.

SPECIALIZED P.STREET 2

S pecialized’s P.Series bikes have been much loved hardcore/ jump hybrid contenders for years and this 2014 nugget is no exception. Its rock solid responsiveness and short-stroke fork make it seriously unforgiving on rougher trails though.
